Martin Downs – Crane Watch
Palm City, Martin County
Course Overview
Mark McCumber's Crane Watch is the more demanding of Martin Downs' two courses, playing 6,808 yards with a rating of 73.1 and slope of 137. McCumber designed it as a proper championship test — longer than Osprey Creek, with tighter landing areas and more penal hazards. The higher slope means this one rewards accuracy over distance, and the back tees will humble even accomplished players.
Fairway Conditions
The longer and more challenging of the two Martin Downs courses, Crane Watch features well-maintained fairways with more pronounced bunkering and water hazards. The McCumber design emphasizes accuracy, so fairway conditions matter — and they deliver. Greens are well-maintained with moderate-to-fast speeds.
Why I Love This Course
â Alex Haigh
"Crane Watch is the course I play when I want to be honest about my game. McCumber didn't design this one to be forgiving — the 73.1 rating and 137 slope tell you that right away. What I appreciate about it is that it doesn't feel unfair. The trouble is visible, the lines are there if you think about them, and when you hit a good shot it feels earned. Pair it with Osprey Creek for a 36-hole day and you've got one of the best public golf experiences in Martin County."
